Cooper is an informal piece of furniture, a truly 'occasional' table. A little smaller than a side table, a perch that is easy to pick up and move around.
The soft dishing of the top is mirrored on the other side of the timber to keep the wood stable and reduce the chance of warping. The dishing on the underside, done for a practical reason, results in a bonus of creating a nice lip on the underside when lifting the table up.
